New casino licences in 2026: Finland, Gibraltar and Alberta

Three licensing changes shape where new casinos launch. Finland began taking licence applications on 1 March 2026 for a market that opens on 1 July 2027. Gibraltar replaced its 2005 law with the Gambling Act 2025. In Canada, Alberta's AGLC approved operators and suppliers ahead of its 13 July 2026 launch.

For Canadian players the Alberta change matters most: a second provincial market with licensed private operators.

Finland ends its online monopoly

Finland's new Gambling Act opens betting, online slots and casino games and online bingo to licensed private operators. The National Police Board began accepting applications on 1 March 2026, and licensed operators may start on 1 July 2027. Veikkaus keeps its monopoly on lotteries, scratch cards and land-based slots and casinos.

Gibraltar's new law

Gibraltar's Gambling Act 2025 came into force on 1 October 2025, replacing the 2005 Act, with a six-month transition for existing licensees. It widens the range of licensed activities across the supply chain and tightens substance and ownership-transparency rules for licensees.

Alberta approves suppliers and operators

The AGLC granted conditional approvals to operators and platform suppliers, among them EveryMatrix, before the regulated market opened on 13 July 2026. Approved suppliers can provide casino platforms and content to Alberta's licensed operators. See EveryMatrix in Alberta and our Alberta launch report.

What it means for players in Canada

Each new regulated market pulls operators away from offshore licences. In Ontario and now Alberta, more brands serve players under provincial rules, with central self-exclusion and complaint routes. Offshore brands that stay focus on the other provinces.

Responsible gaming

Play only if you are 19+ and it stays fun

These rules apply on every page of this site. A young casino has less history to judge it by, so the limits matter more.

19+ only

Adults only, everywhere

You must be 19 or older, and older in some countries. A casino can ask for ID before your first withdrawal, and new casinos often do.
