Ontario launches BetGuard, one self-exclusion for every regulated site

iGaming Ontario launched BetGuard on 14 May 2026. A single registration now excludes a player from every regulated online gaming site in Ontario, including OLG's own, instead of one site at a time.

The tool fulfils a promise made when the province opened its market in 2022.

How it works

Players register once, with ID, on BetGuard's own portal. They choose six months, one year, five years or a custom period. An exclusion can be extended but not shortened or cancelled once it starts.

Operators do not receive a list of excluded players. They check each login and marketing contact against BetGuard in real time and block anyone excluded. Each site must still keep its own self-exclusion option.

What it covers, and what it does not

  • Every site registered with the AGCO and iGaming Ontario.
  • OLG's online gaming.
  • Not offshore casinos that take Ontario players without registering.
  • Not land-based casinos, which have their own program.

If you are excluding yourself because play has become a problem, add a blocking app so offshore sites are covered too.

Why it matters

Before BetGuard, a player who wanted a break from the whole market had to contact dozens of operators one by one. Ontario's model is similar to national schemes in the UK and Australia. For help in Ontario, call ConnexOntario on 1-866-531-2600. More tools are on our responsible gaming page.

Responsible gaming

Play only if you are 19+ and it stays fun

These rules apply on every page of this site. A young casino has less history to judge it by, so the limits matter more.

19+ only

Adults only, everywhere

You must be 19 or older, and older in some countries. A casino can ask for ID before your first withdrawal, and new casinos often do.
