How a round works
The first roll is the come-out. A 7 or 11 wins the pass line, and a 2, 3 or 12 loses it. Any other total (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) becomes the point. The shooter keeps rolling: the pass line wins if the point comes again before a 7, and loses if a 7 comes first.
The bets to start with
- Pass line: bet with the shooter, 1.41% edge.
- Don't pass: bet against the shooter, 1.36% edge.
- Odds: an extra bet behind pass or don't pass once a point is set, paid at true odds with no edge.
- Place 6 or 8: a bet that the number comes before a 7, 1.52% edge.
Taking odds lowers the edge on your total stake, so it is the best use of extra money at the table.
Bets to avoid
The proposition bets in the centre of the table pay well but cost a lot: any seven carries 16.67%, and hardways and single-roll bets on 2 or 12 are in double figures too. The field bet is cheaper only if the table pays 3:1 on 12.
Playing craps online
RNG craps usually has a demo mode, which is the best place to learn the layout. Live craps is rarer. Craps often counts little toward bonus wagering, so check the terms or play with cash. Read our common mistakes at new casinos before you start.
