Delaware Sports Betting Handle's Rise

As compared to last year, the difference isn't exactly massive, but it is surely increasing. The sports handle was 3.7% ahead of $8.2 million in December 2022 and 1.2% ahead of January's $8.4 million.

The total revenue for the month was $1.6m, which was 114.7% greater than the same period last year and 14.3% more than in December. Bally's Dover came in second with $146,813 from $1.5 million, followed by Delaware Park with $282,305 from $3 million in wagers, and Harrington Raceway with $71,607 from $767,910 in wagers. It is also important to note that shops received $1.1 million in profit from wagers totaling $3.2 million.

iGaming expenditure was slightly below December's $44.3m but 51.0% ahead of January 2022's $29.2m. $17.5 million was spent on table games, while $26.6 million was spent on video lottery games.

January's revenue of $1.2 million was 9.1% higher than $1.1 million in the same month of 2022 and on par with December's $1.2 million.

  • $979,980 was made through video lottery games
  • $164,755 from table games
  • $45,128 from poker rake and fees

In this market, Delaware Park was likewise in the lead with $433,104 from $22.4 million in bets, followed by Bally's Dover with $385,189 from $10.4 million and Harrington Raceway with $371,750 from $11.3 million.

Regarding the Delaware Sports Betting Handle, it became the first state to allow legal sports betting following the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act's (PASPA) repeal on May 14, 2018.

The first state to legalize sports betting after PASPA was passed was Delaware, which has long provided pro football parlay betting. Vernon Kirk, the director of the state lottery, claims that because Delaware was preparing to provide sports betting in 2009 before a court ruling barred the initiative, the state was uniquely positioned to do so. Kirk said that all the state actually needed to do was to retrain staff members on how to manage sports wagers and dust off its current technology.
