Provincial markets
Ontario opened its regulated market to private operators on 4 April 2022. Casinos register with the AGCO and sign an agreement with iGaming Ontario, and offshore operators that want Ontario players must join that system.
Alberta followed: its regulated market opened under the AGLC on 13 July 2026, with the Alberta iGaming Corporation running the commercial side and Play Alberta continuing as the government site. Unregistered operators had until 13 October 2026 to register or leave.
In British Columbia the Independent Gambling Control Office replaced the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch on 13 April 2026. Elsewhere, the provincial lottery corporations remain the only authorized online casinos. Our news section follows each change.
Cashiers built for Canada
Interac is the default deposit method at most casinos on our list, alongside iDebit, MuchBetter, Flexepin vouchers and cards. Crypto has moved from a niche to a standard option, and some brands now run crypto-only. Canadian dollar balances avoid conversion fees on each deposit and payout.
Games
Live game shows such as Crazy Time and multiplier tables such as Lightning Roulette are now standard in new lobbies. Crash games, where a multiplier rises until it stops, settle in seconds; they appeal to fast players and empty balances just as fast. Slot studios release several versions of each game with different RTPs, so checking the RTP in the game is more important than ever.
Mobile and verification
New casinos are built for phones first, usually as web apps rather than store downloads. Verification has moved earlier: many now ask for ID at registration or the first deposit, which slows sign-up but speeds up the first withdrawal.
